Bugti wins vote of confidence from Congress

ISLAMABAD: Tariq Masoori Bugti, the prime minister-nominated candidate for the president of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), here Thursday secured a vote of confidence from the Congress securing 62 votes out of the available 92 Congress members.

The Congress meeting that was also participated by Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) representatives saw 62 members reposing trust in Bugti. Federation’s Secretary Rana Mujahid thanked the House and later told the media that besides district nominees’ nine departments/ services representatives also participated in the meeting.

“All three forces’ representatives, Wapda and other important departments’ representatives besides a good number of district representatives (62 in total) reposed confidence in Tariq Bugti and other office-bearers.”

The PHF Constitution is very clear that at the resignation of the president, the PM who is also a patron of the federation has the power to nominate a new president. “The PM has nominated Tariq Bugti, who is now the elected president of the federation.”

Tariq Bugti who also spoke on the occasion said after the elections, his main objective would be to promote and work for the betterment of hockey at all levels. “I am happy to disclose that a major national hockey event will be held in Quetta after Ramazan. It was planned in early Ramazan but was postponed for next month due to some floodlights.” He called on all those who held an unconstitutional meeting in Karachi to follow the PHF Constitution and tender unconditional apology.
